It’s never easy losing a loved one; but it’s also not easy consoling someone who has lost someone special.  In these sad times, being there is important and while we want to help, many us need guidance in knowing what to do.

Here are 7 tips to help you master the art of condolence:

  1. Being tongue-tied is okay.
  2. Share a positive memory.
  3. Don’t try to compare their situation with another.
  4. Don’t dodge the “D” word.
  5. Be real.
  6. Facebook is not enough.
  7. There is no time limit on sympathy.
